Things Lost, Better Things Gained

Probably one of the richest lessons has been realizing the amount of mental and spiritual energy I wasted for years just wishing things would change. All the while beating myself up for not having the discipline to make those changes. If you have an issue with weight and food, you know what I mean. But no matter what issue you are currently dealing with, may I offer a bit of encouragement? Jesus wants to help you with that issue. He really does. But you've got to stop beating yourself up about it, determine to follow His lead, and stand in the place of repentance. We like to identify our shortcomings, form them into a club, and mentally beat the tar out of ourselves. Over and over and over again. We label ourselves and soon lose our real identity to the beaten and bruised fragility we call "me."  We compare, we assume, we assess, we measure, and most times walk away shaking our head at how woefully short our "me" falls when compared to everyone el...

50 Things to do Together - Other Than Watch a Movie

1.  Raid your refrigerator and pantry.  Do a television-style food competition (think “Chopped” or “Iron Chef”). 2.  Pick something seasonal to do, i.e. apple picking, ice skating, or swimming. 3.  Take a walk around your neighborhood. 4.  Go star-gazing, even if it means taking a drive out of town. 5.  Do random acts of kindness.  Buy someone’s coffee for him or her, leave kind notes, etc. 6.  Start a memory book or photo album together. 7.  Arrange some kind of swap with friends – cookies, recipes, clothes, shoes, etc. 8.  Relive recess and go play at a playground. 9.  Do a workout video together. 10.  Cross a quick house project off your checklist: hang a string of white lights somewhere, put up pictures, make a home command center.  Do the things you never have time for – chances are some of them take only a few minutes! 11.  Run an errand you have to do anyway toget...
