Heart Healthy Slow Cooker Chili

If you peruse Pinterest and "mom blogs" like I do for your dinner recipes, you've also come to find out that most of them have about 40+ pics of a perfect kitchen table, with the final product neatly displayed in a fine china bowl with color coordinated napkin and/or placemat.  Then it's another 4-5 paragraphs about how the family raved about the meal that was placed in front of them.

Well, the end result is the same here, minus the 40+ pictures.  We're no nonsense and straight to the point!

See below for ingredients & simple directions on how make an easy slow cooker chili:

Ingredients:
2 lb venison (or lean ground beef)
2 med onions, chopped
2 cups chopped bell peppers (red, yellow, orange, green)
 3 cloves garlic, minced
28 oz can crushed tomatoes, low sodium
28 oz can diced tomatoes, no sodium
6 oz can tomato paste, low sodium
14.5 oz can beef broth, low sodium
1 can black beans, drained and rinsed
2 cans kidney beans, drained and rinsed
2 T. chili powder
1 T. Worcestershire sauce
1 T. dried oregano
1 t. ground black pepper
1 t. dried basil
1 t. hot sauce (I used more)
2 t. sugar

Directions: Really only 2 steps here (hey, I'm a busy woman!):
1.  Brown venison (or lean ground beef) and drain off the fat.  Store in fridge (if you're preparing everything the night before).
2.  The next morning, throw all of your prepared ingredients in the slow cooker.  Cook on low for 6-8 hours.

You can also substitute different beans in this recipe.  I did use the black beans, but had a different bean on hand in lieu of the kidneys.  I also added more than 1 teaspoon of hot sauce.  Use your personal preferences!

If you're looking to get fancy, serve with crackers, shredded cheese, or plain Greek yogurt as toppings (sparingly by the way, this is supposed to be a heart healthy recipe!).  Enjoy!

REVIEWS:  This recipe got rave reviews from both my husband Ron and our friend, Dr. Al, who came over to work on dental models at our house.  I enjoyed and would enjoy it again as well.  Success!

Homemade White Bread Recipe (bread machine)

This is the only recipe I use for white bread!  It's so soft and tastes amazing right out of the bread machine with a little bit of soft butter and a pinch of salt. My family will devour a l oaf in a day or 2 if I let them!  Ready In: 25 minutes Ingredients: 6 Yields:  1 loaf Ingredients: 1 c. warm water 2 tsp. yeast 3 T. sugar 1/4 c. vegetable oil 1 tsp. salt 3 c. white flour Directions: 1.  Put 1 cup of warm water, 2 teaspoons of yeast, and 3 tablespoons of sugar in your bread machine. Let stand 6-12 minutes (depending on the temperature of your water). Your yeast will foam. 2.  Add the remaining ingredients: 1/4 cup of vegetable oil, 1 teaspoon of salt, and 3 cups of white flour. 3.  Use a rapid or basic white bread machine cycle, or bake for 25 minutes in the oven at 350° F. 4.
